The 3 Secrets to Achieving Mochi or Glass Skin

Monday, April 05, 2021

I'm sure many of my readers out there have read my post about getting "glass" skin and how to achieve that no make-up make-up look, in years prior on my blog. (In fact, the latter article went viral and achieved 10k++ views over 2 years!) In this continuation of my skincare secrets series. I present to you: how to achieve glass or mochi skin! Click on the link below to come on in~
For my sisters and misters wondering what's Glass or Mochi skin - the former is the Korean term popularized by Korean and K-pop celebrities, to describe well-hydrated and youthful skin, almost shining translucent like glass, hence the term. And the Japanese counterpart of that is Mochi skin, to describe well-maintained, "bouncy" skin that is soft like a Mochi (that's a Japanese sweet)!

Let me share with you 3 secrets of Glass or Mochi skin that are actionable and very, very tried and tested. (Trust me, I paid good money for most of these as they are unsponsored!) I've included a small Amazon mini-shop at the middle of my post for the products mentioned in this post (Disclaimer: these are affiliate links.)

1) Take daily Collagen Supplements/Drinks/Powder

I started on a supplement brand, Swisse's Collagen+ Ultiboost, consisting of Hyaluronic Acid, Peptides, and Vitamins C & E. Swisse is an Aussie brand that has been invested in by a Chinese private equity fund. Singaporean readers will find it familiar as its ambassador is non-other than Mediacorp artiste Rebecca Tan. In the past, I have also tried Collagen powder and bottles under various brands like Kinohimitsu and Meiji (both are Japanese brands).

For the uninitiated, ladies from the age of 25-30 should start to think about anti-aging skincare solutions, and collagen supplements are one of them, as our skin starts to lose elasticity and natural collagen when we age, hence wrinkles and sagging skin. The active ingredients in these pills, powders, and mini-liquid bottles are mostly made out of collagen, which helps to (a) reduce the appearance of wrinkles; (b) support your body's natural collagen production, and (c) support skin elasticity.

My experience with Swisse's collagen supplements has been very positive; that combined with the other tips in this article has helped me to improve my skin condition by far. In fact, I'm on their third bottle of Collagen+ vitamins! I would say the collagen vitamins were the most effective out of all the other types of collagen I have tried. Also, I noticed that my skin became fairer, and more supple after almost 2 months on my Swisse regime.

Collagen products are a must as skincare products can only treat the surface level - the true nourishment needs to come from your diet, hydration (drinking more water and expelling toxins through sweating or excrement), and supplements in the form of collagen, peptides, and vitamins.

2) Get a Pigmentation/Dark Spot facial

I tried a pigmentation facial, which is a whitening facial aimed at brightening complexions. The name of the facial salon was Shakura, which some of my Singaporean readers might have stumbled upon on Instagram.

Shakura Miroko™ Whitening Treatment is uniquely formulated in Japan to deliver flawless clear skin with a luminous inner glow. After years of research, Shakura has developed its own active formula with a holistic approach to unravel a wide range of skin pigmentation issues with no lasers, invasive procedures, and light machines involved. The gentle yet effective result is brighter, lighter, and illuminated skin.

● Fade dark spots
● Inhibit melanin production
● Prevent yellowing of complexion
● Create even-toned and radiant skin texture

NGL, I did see really good results just after one session with the therapist:

They're having a running promotion now for a first trial at S$48 only, for their Milk whitening facial U.P. S$400++. Sign up here. P.S. I'm not being paid for recommending them; I'm suggesting this because it's a facial that worked wonders for me. Do say "Sasha B." sent you from her blog and if this gains traction, I might even be able to glean a promo code for everyone! ;)

3) Go for a Skin Booster.

You can go for Hyaluronic, Restylane, or Rejuran fillers at aesthetic clinics in a location close to you. In Mandarin Chinese, and in Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong, these fillers are called 水光针 (Shui Guang Zhen) or "Water Bright Injection", and are a well-kept secret among the Asian skincare junkies. Although skin boosters are an invasive procedure, the results are immediate and last for months, sometimes even years. You can take a look at the procedure in this video from Eunogo and decide if boosters are suitable for you.

Eunogo is a medical aesthetics concierge which takes the guesswork out of getting medical, aesthetics, and even plastic surgery services for Singaporeans in Bangkok and Seoul. I've been hearing good feedback from its inception a few years ago. You might want to check it out if you've always wanted to get a procedure done in Thailand or South Korea but was apprehensive because of the risks.

Edit May 2021: I've been trying a new skincare product from Eversoft's Skinz Hydra Nature series, called the Hyaluronic Acid Ampoule. For the uninitiated, hyaluronic acid can be injected into your skin via fillers, or used as a topical serum on the surface of your skin. After using it for 3 days, you will see visible improvements to your skin, such as better texture, brighter complexion and also reduced pores. It is suggested for you to use a facial mist or spray (or even a small misting bottle with mineral water or distilled water works!) to dampen the surface of your face, and then applying the hyaluronic acid serum via the applicator. I've put a small Amazon store below so you can check out some of the products (Eversoft's product is not available in the Amazon store widget so here are some alternatives!)

Disclaimer: I have not tried nor committed fully to all of the tips in this post. Although natural methods to healthy skin are key, such as drinking more water and avoiding sugar (it ages you!), sometimes we also include the latest technology in skin aesthetics so that readers can have a variety of different methods to choose from. Adventure to the Balkans Travelogue Pt. 1: Zagreb, Croatia

Hola at you readers! It's me, Sasha Bear here - and today we're FINALLY going to post about my trip to the Balkans circa Octo...

Quote I Love

“To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.”
