October Mayhem!

Sunday, November 12, 2017

October was Halloween weekend and a whole bunch of other activities here in Sunny Singapore. There were Halloween parties to be at and food to be eaten. So here's a summary of my mega-October month! (Pictured here are Harlequin-Colette and Playboy Bunny-Chelsea, along with me, who's supposed to be a hippie!)

We start the month with drinks at B at Social M's bar. Hibiki always taste awesome paired with great conversation.

Had an opportunity to try Beauty Collagen Pot as well. Was a treat for the palate and the eyes.

Next, two steaks at Burlamacco Restorante's on Amoy Street with R. Talking about everything under the sun, it's always a hoot with him!

Finally persuaded my stubborn lunch buddy to try the new Korean restaurants on Boat Quay. This one is called Bonchon, next to its sister restaurant, O Chicken and Beer. Pictured here is their Octopus Rice (Nakji Bokkeum) and Kimchi stew.

We interrupt your regular programming with a selfie!

Next, we had Japanese food with YB when he was in Singapore. This was at Liang Court, called
Ryoshi Sushi Ikeikemaru.

Mirror selfies are a thing now...

During Monday two bucks a shuck oyster nights at Tanuki Raw. Was amazing just sipping cocktails and enjoying the freshness of these oysters.

This was at Tsukiji Fish Market Restaurant at Orchard Central. Look at that beautiful plating and colour of the Sashimi! Was definitely one of the freshest tasting and aesthetically pleasing sashimi dishes I've had in Singapore, and that's saying a lot.

Throwback to HK in July~

That day, had the Peking duck set at Dragon's Bowl. The thinly sliced duck skin complemented the scallions and cucumbers in the wrappings, while the duck meat was cooked in eefu noodles as well as with preserved vegetables in a delectable soup.

The next day, we proceeded to Ikea Tampines to pick out some new furniture for our house, which is currently renovating. This was during Diwali! I'm always fascinated by the coloured rice art that's on display, and its intricacies.

Had a proverbial spread of Swedish food - meatballs, smoked salmon, chicken wings, cooked salmon. Not to forget my favourite - ligenberry soda! I felt like a little girl again - used to come here a lot for their 2 dollar vanilla cones.

I really need this mirror so I can put my Hollywood dreams into action. But alas I am stuck here on our little island.

When in doubt, pose in your carpark. I love this dress from Zara, it's very fall-inspired and delicate with the embroidery. I have another dress in the same colour, with a different silhouette too!

Had sashimi again at Sushi Bar. One of the better and more popular Japanese places in Singapore is sushi bar - it's a must recommend, and must-go. It's one of the lower mid-range Japanese places out there for semi-casual dining.

Nanjing Impressions with the Dad. Discovered two new dishes here, which is the roasted duck and snow pear in hawthorn. The latter is only $3 can you believe it? Dad says the roasted duck is on par with the salted duck that NI is famous for. I'm leaning toward the former though. Anyway, this restaurants is one of the ones we always go back to here in Singapore. The parents had it in Nanjing while on vacation in the previous few years and have been hooked ever since they opened a branch here. There's also a Pingtan Shifu, which performs a sort of singing-spoken word song in Chinese dialect. Every time I'm here I feel like I've been transported to Ming dynasty in China!

This was a design-your-own cocktail challenge by Somersby one day near ORP. (If you're in CBD you'd know that they all sorts of marketing activities for different FMCG products, some bordering on gimmicky, but occasionally cool like this design your cocktail competition.) Evidently my bartending skills need improvement because the competition on Instagram was all very very good and photo-worthy. :-/ oh well. Taste-wise it's the Somersby that you're used to, although the bottled and canned ones have a difference in sugar content.

Alright, that's all for the warm-up. We've arrived at the Halloween pictures! Are you ready?

I was invited to a Halloween party by D and C, which turns out to be an annual or twice annual event. It was held at a bar in an abandoned building in Singapore General Hospital and loads of fun. Everyone brought a bottle of liquor to imbibe with so safe to say the party was rocking.

Scary Skull Guy and a Beach Surfer Bro...

The hosts were Ghostbusters - very very cute.

Harry Potter, Playboy Bunny, Hippie, Another Playboy Bunny, Jedi.

Three characters from Beauty and the Beast.

Next, Halloween shenanigans with some friends from out of town! Brought them to the Alchemist Beer Lab (been a place I've wanted to try for the longest time as well.)

Rose beers, Pear bears. Yum!

Pictured here are the tapas.

Pregaming with Ba Ku Teh. Haha. What a night.

The sour plum shots now come as a bottled liquor at Capital. Everyone enjoyed it a lot.

Scary butcher.

Preetipls was at our table!!!

Met this two cuties, Irene and Ming. They're FOBs from the motherland (lol was that mean?) Had fun speaking my Chinglish to them and they came over.

Was a big weekend to say the least. Whew.

Now for Grandma's 79th birthday celebration!

The food at Peach Garden, which we happen to be staying near due to the renovations at our house (more of that in next month's post), was on point. Pictured here is their Peking duck wraps, shark's fin, wasabi prawns, venison, fish, kailan, duck fried rice and mango sago. Happy birthday grandmama and wish you the best of health and happiness!

Haven't met this one in ages! Hello Ming Ming! Had a blast to the past talking about our lives (and taking full advantage of the 10$ lime margaritas at Super Loco).

Cheers!

This was our dinner at Kinki. We had the Entertainer app so that was really awesome!

:)

Poke madness! I've been having so much poke recently. But hey, what's there not to like - healthy fish, rice and salads make a great combination!

Yoogane with B, had to go shopping for some clothes for our photoshoot in a few weeks.

This was before I dyed my hair.

Saw Thor that day and had the famous Wee Nam Kee chicken rice. The rice was really amazing, the chicken was alright I guess. Really worth the trip down to Northpoint.

Tried out this new Japanese salon called Risel Eye and Hair. It's part of the Devonshire group of hairdressers. The dye, with the monthly promotion, was only SG$81 for the length of my hair, which is considered long. Really worth it. Because it's Japanese, I felt they really had better service and they took care of the details really well too? I had one of the longest and most elaborate hair washes in the history of hair washes here. My only complaint was that they didn't curl or blow dry my hair at the end.

The colour's actually a little cooler that this picture.

This salon was able to go the coolest, milky brown I wanted since forever. Although it's still slightly coppery, I'll take it. Pity it'll turn orange after a month though, as kindly informed to me by the hairdresser/Hair Director at Risel, Harada. That's unfortunate but I will be back!

Pasta at L'Operetta and talking about work. Always great fun networking and meeting new people.

M and A's new bar opening at Boat Quay, called Round Two! Check it out if you're nearby.

That's all for my Mega October update!

So the end of October and the start of November to the middle of the month, we've been lodging at the Orchid Country Club while the house renovates. We're redoing our toilets and the kitchen, as well as repainting the living room and hall's walls. The next post will talk all about that and our stay at the Orchid CC so stay tuned! I've actually just checked out this afternoon and have come back home. Everything is still in a state of limbo though - don't you wish renovations were as simple as playing The Sims. Unfortunately it involves a high degree of teamwork and cleaning, which is well underway.

One more week till December, Christmas and New Year's. Hopefully everything is smooth sailing for the remainder of the year. (I'm hoping I can go to Wonder Fruit Festival, we shall see...!)

Adventure to the Balkans Travelogue Pt. 1: Zagreb, Croatia

Hola at you readers! It's me, Sasha Bear here - and today we're FINALLY going to post about my trip to the Balkans circa Octo...

Quote I Love

“To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.”
