East Europe 2016 Travelogue Part 2 - Warsaw, Krakow, Auschwitz, Banksa Bytrisca, Budapest

Sunday, December 25, 2016

Time for part 2 of my trip.

Day 6: Poznan to Krakow, Krakow to Auschwitz

I have to say this leg of the trip was pretty heavy, like the mood and all, because I guess the tour guide wanted to convey the severity of the atrocities suffered by the Jewish population in Europe during WWII. He was showing Schindler's List on the bus - although it was a great movie, it did give this part of the tour a more serious tone.

East Europe 2016 Travelogue Part 1 - Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Dresden, Berlin

Saturday, December 24, 2016

Hello friends! So it has been a month since my last post, and here I am finally writing about my trip to Eastern Europe. This is my second time going to Europe (with Spain and Portugal being my virgin trip in 2015) and I was so pumped for it. This time round, I made an effort to remember the attractions. The tour was sometimes overwhelming, with lots to see and photos to take, but I think I made the best of it :)

Here we go!

Almost Christmas!

Wednesday, November 23, 2016

Sooo, am now about a week in after my trip to Europe. There're posts on that coming soon, I promise. I've been caught up with this course and exam this week (long story...) so I'll have to save the pictures and posts of Europe for the week after.

But in all seriousness, Europe was so awesome. I think I didn't really appreciate it as much when I went to Spain/Portugal in 2015 because I didn't put in as much effort absorbing all the culture and remembering the details of all the architecture we visited. So what happened was that I couldn't really differentiate all the various places when I looked at the photographs of the Spanish trip. This time round, I was really determined to make the best of the holiday and not be as overwhelmed, so I spent a lot of time on the bus reading up the historical facts of the places we visited. And also honestly I wanted to be able to talk about the destinations I visited to people who would ask, which I wasn't able to do for Spain (which I regret tremendously...!)

Just a teaser of the posts to come, we visited the following places on our 2 week tour of East Europe (in this order):

Czech Republic: Prague and Czesky Krumlov
Germany: Dresden and Berlin
Poland: Warsaw and Krakow
Hungary: Budapest
Slovakia: Banska Bystrica
Austria: Vienna and Salzburg
Germany: Munich

I can't wait to do the posts of the trip! But I have to get back to my books now (which are btw, killing me T_T). It's all going to be over by Saturday so I thank the heavens for that. Also, I am kind of missing work and the routine of it so looking forward to that on Monday.

Till Saturday,

House party and Ultra

Monday, September 12, 2016

Hey ya! Just finished an Ultra tiring weekend at Ultra. Lol, see what I did there! Anyway Ultra Singapore was really really and I mean REALLY muddy. And crowded, the queues for food and drink barely moved for over 1 hour. But the music was, eh, OKAY i guess. Silly me for wearing Haviannas to a music festival with all that MUD but I guess that's a lesson learnt? YOU NEED HEAVY DUTY WELLINGTONS das what you need. So anyway starting off September with a house party:

August shenanigans

Thursday, September 01, 2016

In the blink of the eye, it is now the first day of September... I am so excited because I'm planning trips to HK, SH and Seoul in the remaining 4 months of the year. Anyway, that's a story for another time. These were my adventures in August.

Brunch

July fun in the sun

Tuesday, August 09, 2016

So this post is all about what I've been up to in July this year. At a whopping 75 photos it's going to be a really picture-laden post so bear with me! Blogspot has this really annoying problem, which is that when you embed photos in the post they turn out really small and display really stretched and pixellated in the actual post. So I'm going to have to manually click the Large setting on all 75 photos. Le sigh.

Meet up with the oranges from CAPT!

May to June Round Up
So I've been really busy lately and have not had much time to post. I'm down with the flu today and tomorrow so I thought it'll be nice to come on here once again to do a little update.
These are pictures from May and June! Can't really remember the exact dates and who I've gone out with though...

My favourite rap song ever?

"Alphabet Aerobics"

(Now it's time for our wrap up
Let's give it everything we've got
Ready? Begin)

Artificial amateurs, aren't at all amazing
Analytically, I assault, animate things
Broken barriers bounded by the bomb beat
Buildings are broken, basically I'm bombarding
Casually create catastrophes, casualties
Canceling cats got their canopies collapsing
Detonate a dime of dank daily doing dough
Demonstrations, Don Dada on the down low
Eating other editors with each and every energetic
Epileptic episode, elevated etiquette
Furious fat fabulous fantastic
Flurries of funk felt feeding the fanatics
Gift got great global goods gone glorious
Getting godly in his game with the goriest
Hit em high, hella height, historical
Hey holocaust hints hear 'em holler at your homeboy
Imitators idolize, I intimidate
In an instant, I'll rise in an irate state
Juiced on my jams like jheri curls jocking joints
Justly, it's just me, writing my journals
Kindly I'm kindling all kinds of ink on
Karate kick type brits in my kingdom
Let me live a long life, lyrically lessons is
Learned lame louses just lose to my livery
My mind makes marvelous moves, masses
Marvel and move, many mock what I've mastered
Niggas nap knowing I'm nice naturally
Knack, never lack, make noise nationally
Operation, opposition, off not optional
Out of sight, out of mind, wide beaming opticals
Perfected poem, powerful punch lines
Pummeling petty powder puffs in my prime
Quite quaint quotes keep quiet it's Quantum
Quarrelers ain't got a quarter of what we got uh
Really raw raps, rising up rapidly
Riding the rushing radioactivity
Super scientifical sound search sought
Silencing super fire saps that are soft
Tales ten times talented, too tough
Take that, challengers, get a tune up
Universal, unique untouched
Unadulterated, the raw uncut
Verb vice lord victorious valid
Violate vibes that are vain make em vanished
While I'm all well what a wise wordsmith just
Weaving up words, weeded up on my work shift
Xerox, my X-radiation holes extra large
X-height letters, and xylophone tones
Yellow back, yak mouth, young ones yaws
Yesterday's lawn yard sell our yawn
Zig zag zombies, zoom in to the zenith
Zero in zen thoughts, overzealous rhyme ZEALOTS!...

(Good... can you say it faster?)

Brunch

Of Korean BBQs, Tomato Tequila shots, Crabs, Club Street, Flowers and selfies

Monday, May 09, 2016

Okay so I basically have a backlog of photos from my camera post-Japan, which happened around 3 weeks ago? I have a new phone (the s7 edge) so I have photos from there too but I'm not sure whether I should do a separate post for those. I expect I would as I go along editing this post haha.

Edit: Okay a slight heads up because this post is super long. It probably has like 50 pictures?

Favourite poem

Thursday, April 21, 2016

This poem means a lot to be and I really love it. I chanced upon it when I was experiencing extreme turmoil with my emotional life 2 years ago. Found it and it resonated with me a lot. Here it is today, I hope you appreciate it as much as I do.

Unending Love

I seem to have loved you in numberless forms, numberless times…
In life after life, in age after age, forever.
My spellbound heart has made and remade the necklace of songs,
That you take as a gift, wear round your neck in your many forms,
In life after life, in age after age, forever.

Whenever I hear old chronicles of love, its age-old pain,
Its ancient tale of being apart or together.
As I stare on and on into the past, in the end you emerge,
Clad in the light of a pole-star piercing the darkness of time:
You become an image of what is remembered forever.

You and I have floated here on the stream that brings from the fount.
At the heart of time, love of one for another.
We have played along side millions of lovers, shared in the same
Shy sweetness of meeting, the same distressful tears of farewell-
Old love but in shapes that renew and renew forever.

Today it is heaped at your feet, it has found its end in you
The love of all man’s days both past and forever:
Universal joy, universal sorrow, universal life.
The memories of all loves merging with this one love of ours –
And the songs of every poet past and forever.

Osaka Traveloge 3.0

Sunday, April 17, 2016

Day 4 of our trip was to Fushimi Inari shrine and Kiyomizudera in Kyoto. It was a lovely Wednesday! The weather was really great, though I would've liked it to be a little colder than it was. Took a 1 hour ride from our Air BnB at Nippombashi to arrive at Kyoto.

The snacks on the street leading up to Fushimi Inari.

Osaka Traveloge Part 2.0

Monday

I think I can let the pictures speak for themselves on this day. We went to the Osaka Aquarium, had okonomiyaki, took the ferris wheel, went to a park with tons of sakura, and went to get sushi for dinner.

Osaka Traveloge Part 1.0

Sunday, April 10, 2016

Whew I'm finally back from Japan. The flight back was really tiring because the first flight to Shanghai delayed and we missed our connecting flight out to Singapore... :-( Going to break up the post into parts because there are way too many pictures to post all at once.

Saturday
Took a connecting flight from Singapore to Shanghai and then Osaka. We spent the morning in Shanghai and spent some time with Grandmamaw and Grandpapaw at Hongqiao. :) Pictures from the morning there!

Osaka travelogue part 0.5

Tuesday, April 05, 2016

Hi everyone! Currently halfway through my Osaka and Kyoto trip. Currently on a train to Kyoto. Some impressions of Japan thus far.
1) The MRT stations are like mazes. Like seriously, I would totally be lost if I were to come alone to Japan. Not only are the maps full of lines like a bunch of coloured spaghetti, the different lines on the same stations are also notoriously far apart, sometimes requiring you to go up and down several flight of steps.

I am not my Label

Friday, April 01, 2016

A really powerful piece by Prince EA about rejecting the labels that society puts on us. I don't agree with the video 100% but it's well done stylistically, shall we say. :-)

Brunch

Hola amigos!

Sunday, March 20, 2016

It's the end of another week, so more peektures for a round up of all the places I've been this week.

Monday

The Secret Mermaid. So we bought two drinks and some truffle fries and a corn dog. It was Singapore Cocktail week so they were doing some promo on the drinks. Little did we know how awful the drinks were. There was this milo and moonshine infusion that was absolutely putrid, 10/10 would not recommend. The food was so-so and the space was really tiny like it can sit only 15 people max?

dinner

Mid-week Bonanza.

Wednesday

Did my hair on Wednesday at Picasso Hair Salon @ Haji Lane! It's brown now with caramel highlights. Really pleased with it.

And shisha and chill at a friend's place followed by Zouk after. I must be getting old because I woke up the next day uber hungover and had to miss a day's work.

Friends

Oysters and My 25th Birthday!

Sunday, March 06, 2016

Hi world! Officially blogging here as a 25 year old. Haha time flies! Anyway I've been making a few more close-to-30-aged friends and it has been really swell because they talk to me all like "if i were your age again i would this and that" making me feel all 21 again haha. So round up to my week.

Tuesday

Went to eat oysters at the Wharf near Robertson Quay. Really cheap at $2 bucks a pop if I'm not wrong.

Weekend roundup 2

Sunday, February 28, 2016

Just a snippet of what's to come...

Friday
Really impromptu dinner at Nuvo + drinks. Had the most epic (?) night I must say in the most different kind of way? Almost thought I lost my life (to be dramatic about it) and ended on kinda a bad note but oh well. Dinner was good - kurobuta pork and codfish, then kyo after. Shitty handphone photos (should really think about changing to a better phone).

Weekend Roundup

The Weekend Round Up

Had a ball of time with #chesnami as per usual talking about everything under the sun.

So have been meeting friends over the weekend and the Monday from this week. Busy busy! Was such a fun but tiring weekend. Still trying to figure out how much detail I should be revealing on here. 'A good story should be like a woman's skirt; long enough to cover the subject and short enough to create interest.'

Saturday

Scones and latte at The Daily Round Up.

Night time dinner at Jekyll & Hyde. Here's the tuna and preserved veg starter that we ordered.

Deliciously done wagyu beef cubes. Too bad they were kinda chewy though.

Back to UTown residences and met Joy Joy! Haus party like there was no tomorrow. I swear I got even more smashed than I already were from the red wine.

 Hola!

Then we went to this party at Alibi, the Fullerton pavilion after. Guess it's like the new Avalon what with the submerged pavilion design and glass windows? Can't remember much except that it was super super crowded.

Sunday

Met a couple of friends for dinner at Pacamara at Upper Thompson. This is the seafood mac'n'cheese.

The leg of chicken which I had. Twas pretty succulent and juicy. Though the tomato puree was a tad salty.

Group shot of the food at Pacamara!

Hehe. :)

Went to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park thereafter to check out the Chingay parade. The floats were super bright, almost like getai? There was this one performer though that looked like Balang from the Philippines and we were all super amused at that.

Monkeying around.

Monday

Went bar-hopping on Monday night and really really had a ball of a time. Checked out a couple of places that were so indie they didn't even have names. Like the first bar we went to was literally a door in the wall amongst a bunch of shop houses... and its name was 28 Hong Kong Street aka the literal name of the address. How cute is that? Don't really remember the cocktails that I was getting because there were so many and I felt like the next few bars (jigger and pony, bitter and love) looked the same to me. Idk maybe it's just me. Same feeling with the wine and liquor shelves and ladders. Just that they got progressively brighter. Didn't have much food either but had tons of banter to fill me up. :-)

In the midst of booking air tickets to go to Japan in April to see the sakura! I am so excited I can't even. Haha. And it's probably going to be the first time I'm staying in an Airbnb so there's that to look forward to.

Time to say byeeee. Heh.

xoxo

Pre- and Post-CNY fun

Monday, February 15, 2016

So... I basically dreamed that I had a blog and I woke up today deciding to create one just to fulfill that dream. IKR, it's super weird and random but oh well. I thought it'll be a great way to log down my memories since time has been passing really really quickly this year. In the blink of the eye it's like, almost March? So this is what I've been up to this year.

January

The pageants met up for our annual gathering and we went to Blue Jacket lounge (that's the speakeasy bar above Empire). It was sooo much fun oh my gosh. So some of the girls met up for dinner at Marco Marco first before we proceeded to drinks for the night. Was kind of anticipating the night to turn out subpar because so many people couldn't make it for dinner but almost everyone made it for post-dinner so that was awesome.

Adventure to the Balkans Travelogue Pt. 1: Zagreb, Croatia

Hola at you readers! It's me, Sasha Bear here - and today we're FINALLY going to post about my trip to the Balkans circa Octo...

Quote I Love

“To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.”
