February Feels Fairly Fresh

Monday, March 12, 2018

February brings with it all it's little surprises and festivities. CNY is always an integral part of the year with its familial gatherings and raucous celebrations.

'Twas one of the nights before CNY, where I had a comforting dinner at Standing Sushi Bar.

Often a times I delight in having a one person meal at Manna - they have a Army Stew which comes in a one person portion that is really delightful.

I love the army stew at Super Star K's too. Basically army stew for days... There's something about the kimchi, ramyeon, gochujang and luncheon meat combo that wins my heart every time they lift the pot out of the kitchen and onto the dining table.

Take a break and have some water melon sorbet!

Next, we have the delicious Spanish meal at Pim Pam's. Pictured here is their burrata cheese salad.

Delighted in breaking it apart. It was firm but tender to touch.

This was the bacon and octopus.

The bread basket - kinda meh at the portions but they were crispy enough to make up for that.

Belle has to order anything cauliflower-related when she can!

The squid ink paella which left the dinner party divided about its taste.

The beef paella.

Jamon! Which is a must have in Spanish restaurants.

All together a very delightful meal.

Adjourned to Manhattan Bar for a bit after dinner.

BAV Unite!

Something-or-another about these orchids caught our attention.

Me trying to take artistic photos of my friends. How is this working out for me?

Time for some CNY celebrations! (Do you guys prefer reading the caption first then the photo, or looking at the photo first before reading the caption? Let me know in the comments below!)

Shopped for ingredients and then proceeded to have a really filling meal of hotpot.

With the babes. Also played a lot of Psych! and these were some of the hilarious answers:

You might be wondering why you're seeing a picture of that Pim Pam burrata again... Safe to say food was so good that I recommended it to another group of friends. Back again in the 2nd time in a month!

Had the prawns in mash.

We tried this the last time, and that was the pork and octopus!

Had some lamb chops.

And a bit of the pork loin.

Got the paella once again. Don't be deceived by the broadness of the pan. The rice is just 1cm thick?

Jamon and egg whites!

What an amazing meal, will definitely return again.

Of course, we met to celebrate Cher's birthday.

It was nice to have an AC Reunion for CNY.

Went to Hokkaido sushi for dinner one of these days. It always serves an awesome spread but unfortunately the fish wasn't all that fresh and many items were sold out.

Next up was Vday!

I got this bouquet of flowers which was really lovely.

And the highlight of the month was our CNY reunion dinner. This year my house was hosting.

One of the main dishes is my uncle's monster pengcai. It's something I looks forward to every year. It's filled to the brim with seafood like sea cucumber, prawns, abalone, scallops, and there's also siewyok and chicken at the bottom with mushrooms and broccoli.

Went to Tunglok Peking duck for this awesome spread. The wasabi prawns deserve a special mention.

Stayed home for stir-fried rice cake with preserved vegetables, so yummy and full of love!

Visited the Botanical Gardens during the weekend. We come here once or twice a year to look at the flower blooms. Apparently someone told my parents the trees were flowering? But when we got there everything was a sea of green as per usual.

We ended the trip at Halia's where I had my chilli crab linguine. I swear that's my new favourite dish - I can't stop ordering it when I see it on the menu.

So Halia was brunch and for dinner we ate at the Szechuan restaurant at Northpoint City. First time there and I have to say it's pretty authentic:

We always get this when we get Chinese food - vinaigrette black fungus.

This is the Szechuan pork ribs I think?

Highlight of the meal was the 水煮牛肉。

The vinaigrette cabbage was pretty yummy too. First time having cabbage prepared in this way.

Went to this dinner theatre show called Diva to the Death. It was my first time doing dinner theatre so that's pretty awesome.

And the views were spectacular too - they were celebrating towards the end of CNY so they had fireworks.

The storyline is about two divas - a Jazz singer and and Getai singer battling it out for dominion over Monti. Really interesting premise and delightful food to boot.

A side of meat platter, caviar linguine and chilli crab risotto.

Some sort of chendol pudding for dessert and a macroon to cleanse the palate.

Went to BJ's dance concert with the fam.

4 people polled on InstaStories said I look like a North Korean cheerleader. I know when people say you look Korean it's meant as a compliment (maybe because it implies that you look pretty and have good skin) but NORTH Korean? OK. Ready for my close up with the Supreme Leader now.

BJ opening his eyes really wide for the camera lol.

Went to a sports bar with the fam later - it was the only one open at 10pm.

Check out their Army/Ah Boys to Men themed performance here:

That's all for February - what's in store for March you ask? Well March being the birthday month would be chock a block full of things to do and people to see. All that coming up towards the start of April in March's round up!

Adventure to the Balkans Travelogue Pt. 1: Zagreb, Croatia

Hola at you readers! It's me, Sasha Bear here - and today we're FINALLY going to post about my trip to the Balkans circa Octo...

Quote I Love

“To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget.”
